The internet of things

The internet of things

5G mobile technology is estimated to be present in some countries, mainly in Europe, Asia and North America, by 2016... Yes, that's less than you thought and you are just getting used to instagram and now you'll have more speed to share whaaaaaat?!!!

Some people will say that they don't need more speed in their phones because they are happy sending SMS's and writing letters but the thing is that this technology is not only intended for your use, but first let's make some definitions.

But, why 5G?
5G testing

A short intro, 5G is still a non standardized technology that is the evolution of LTE or 4G and some companies already reached speeds of 7.5gbps,  by Samsung,  or 5gbps,  by Ericsson, or 4.5 , by Huawei, that's is like the speed of optical fiber just in your mobile.

If you want to go into a more specific you can always google "5G networks"

But what does that mean?

That means that a new concept called "the Internet of things " is possible

Smart City
What is the Internet of things?

Well is your car using the network to drive you home or your fridge asking for food when food is missing or your house asking to be repaired when is needed or drones asking for help when someone is in danger, or cities communicating between each other to trade some goods so the "things " are now able to interact.

Or also that means that the iPhones are going to be as big as your head,  flexible as a paper sheet and the battery will last 15 mins... (._.) well some things will never change :p

Social Impact and long term change

For us, the humans, means a natural reaction. Some people will become more paranoid thinking that robots will steal our jobs or brains but hey!  Being paranoid is up to you, so you can change that and learn new things, that's something that the robots will never take from you.

But in that sense 5G will push you to be better and understand, more, about technology and even if you don't want the risk of staying in your own world is that you'll not be able to access to some things like water.

What?! water is not going to be accessible if I don't know technology?

Yes, just like Sarvajal project in India, for example.

The age of oversharing

In the other hand, will help you to redefine social relationships because, as you can see ,already, Facebook, twitter, youtube, etc. Is making you redefine "Friendship" forcing you to realize who is your real friend and who is not and actually, sometimes, the closest people which you interact are not even close to you, physically, but they are closer than any other person around your neighborhood.

In conclusion It's a huge topic that needs to be discussed. I'm sure it will push the humankind forward, will make our governments to change, the way we live and how we perceive the world with even more data to process but at the end the final result is the democratization of things and knowledge because smart things are intended to distribute everything in a more equal and efficient way.

But in the meantime this is how 5G networks will change the world, it's going to be awesome and here is another video of the BBC about 5G and It's implications

Have a nice day
